Event: Bunny's 100th Birthday Luncheon

As Mother's Day approaches, it felt right to share a special day with you, honoring a special matriarch. Every now and then, we have the privilege to see true beauty and grace manifested in a single individual. It was December 9, 2017. It was "Bunny's" 100th birthday. An intimate group of family and friends joined her for an intimate luncheon in the Lafayette Room at the Hay Adams Hotel in DC. The table was decorated with fresh white flowers and frames containing treasured moments over the years, from her wedding picture to old family portraits.

Ms. Bunny was so warm and full of joy and love. When her great-granddaughter, Mia, emerged from her stroller, she ran straight into the arms of her Bunny. They gazed into each other's eyes long enough for me to capture it.

I was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect from a professional photographer. Shala quickly put all of us at ease and her pleasant disposition helped a great deal. We had a 14-month old that needed to be part of the historical record that the photographs would capture. That in itself is not always easy to maneuver such a young child to be cooperative. Shala was very patient with us all the time.

We spent some time capturing all of the family portraits, including a precious 4-generation photo of Ms. Bunny, her daughter, her grandson, and her great-granddaughter.

The night before our event the Washington area was expected to have snow up to 3-5 inches. We all were quite concerned whether our event would take place. The evening before, Shala called to inquire if everything was a go and she assured us that she would be there — she told us that she was not afraid to drive in the snow! That really reassured us! After working with her, I would use her again in a heartbeat! We love the photos. They really captured the specialness of the event.

Little Ms. Mia was even treated to a delicious bowl of Cheerios on this momentous occasion. Way to go, Hay Adams, for meeting the needs of even the most discerning palettes.

During the luncheon, Ms. Bunny's son-in-law, Jim, read the most lovely tribute. I loved the look on Ms. Bunny's face as she listened to her high and well-deserved praise.

In addition to having several prints made from the event, I custom designed an heirloom album documenting the celebration. This handmade, linen-covered album will be passed down to Bunny's great-granddaughter. It was a treat for me to personally deliver the album to my client, Suzanne, and her husband. We relived memories from the luncheon, talked shop about design and photography, and sipped on some very delicious tea on what seemed like a perfect March morning.

Thank you, Suzanne, for choosing me to share this historic moment you orchestrated to honor your mother. Happy early Mother's Day!
